Headshots

Headshots are a highly valuable asset to an individual who is looking for a professional career, particularly in the arts industry. Rather than words on a CV, headshots reveal your true colours and can reveal many of your characteristics and qualities. For example, a big teethy smile will represent your approachability and friendliness. On the other hand, a more determined and focused headshot will reveal your dedication to work, professionalism and a serious energy. In my headshot, I focused particularly on giving off a hard-working energy via focused and serious eyes in collaboration with a small smirk for a hint of character.

Once I was satisfied with my headshot, it is essential to jazz it up using Photoshop. Firstly, I cropped the image so that the focus is purely on my shoulders and head, including the brick background too. This provides a focal point and gives a higher quality display of my appearance. Following that, I used the blemish tool on Photoshop to eradicate any spots or imperfections particularly on my forehead. Next, it was important to expand the clarity of my skin by using a skin softening tool. The process consisted of layering the image with a blurred copy, then using the brush to clear the original image. This resulted in my skin looking softer, tidier and more presentable for professional use. At this point the image was significantly improved yet I wanted some smaller details added, For example, overlaying my lips in red and then turning the saturation down to have more naturally coloured lips, this technique was also used with blue for my eyes. In future, I would have a more characteristic and smiley headshot and used more natural lighting where possible.
