Professional Portfolios

Jake Tuley Induction Task 3 Professional Portfolios Examples Samuelcare.co.uk First impressions can make or break a website from the user’s perspective, especially for a professional portfolio which essentially sells yourself like an interview to any future employers or contacts. The very first page to appear is a wide, dark shot from a film with little to none context. Followed by several other shots from movies, TV shows and advertisements the cinematographer has created. This doesn’t clarify anything about his profession or who he is until you scroll through several pages which is disappointing to obtain a first impression. Using the page director on the top tab, the next page consisted of many images across the page as a Narrative. Again, I felt this was a poor effort to present his previous work. Once clicked on a particular piece of work, this is only followed by more shots used in that piece of film. This works well as a display wall, however, gives very little con...

Hollow Review

Image
The team were given a three week deadline to produce the five-minute film now effectively titled 'Hollow' representing the woods and the emotions of the murderers. After the first week of gaining ideas and script-writing, the middle sector of the task consisted of filming and some editing developments t the end of the week. To prepare at the start, we done decided to table read the script collectively to get a solid understanding of the plot, characteristics and timeline of events. We even traveled to the woodland setting to pick and choose exactly where each scene were to be filmed.  The next day we got into our outfits, picked up our equipment and headed to said location. We had three members of the group behind the camera and four actors at all times. We approached the first scene of filming with a lot of passion and clarity on what we needed to do, it was an exciting start. We were able to get into character after half a dozen takes which is natural, and each actor felt ...

The Initial Ideas (5-Min Film)

When approached with a task to make a five minute film with no context, no hints for a plot with people you've only just met, it was a welcome challenge to try new skills and produce something we as a team are proud of. The first debate considered the conflict between factual and documentary based such as a day in the life video or a fictional approach. After a several hours of discussing our ideas we finally began with a horror/psychological thriller. This way, it will enable us to get creative across a wide variety of techniques within acting, editing, script writing and filming. We took inspiration from similar movies in a relatable genre such as Paranormal Activity, The Lighthouse and Escape Room. We even viewed several short films typically 4-10 minutes long to help inspire our ideas when finally the penny dropped.  We found ourselves developing our plots to our ideas and were stuck with two. Option 1 would consist of a group of lads finding a dead body in the woods litt...

Headshots

Image
Headshots are a highly valuable asset to an individual who is looking for a professional career, particularly in the arts industry. Rather than words on a CV, headshots reveal your true colours and can reveal many of your characteristics and qualities. For example, a big teethy smile will represent your approachability and friendliness. On the other hand, a more determined and focused headshot will reveal your dedication to work, professionalism and a serious energy. In my headshot, I focused particularly on giving off a hard-working energy via focused and serious eyes in collaboration with a small smirk for a hint of character.  Once I was satisfied with my headshot, it is essential to jazz it up using Photoshop. Firstly, I cropped the image so that the focus is purely on my shoulders and head, including the brick background too. This provides a focal point and gives a higher quality display of my appearance. Following that, I used the blemish tool on Photoshop to eradicate...
